In another close SFL contest, the Daytona Beach Racers held on Thursday night to defeat the Ft. Lauderdale Barracudas 31-28. This is the second contest that was close and exciting, right down to the last few seconds, due to the new SFL scoring rules.
The Racers were leading 28-19, with 2 minutes left, when they kicked a 26 yard field goal to make the score 31-19. With NFL rules, this game would require two touchdowns for the Barracudas to catch up. However, with the possibility of a three point conversion and 4 point 50-yard field goal, the Barracudas had a reasonable chance to catch the Racers.
The crowd watched and cheered as the Barracudas marched down the field in 1 minute and scored a touchdown and 3 point conversion to make the score 31-28 with still a minute on the clock. An on-sides kickoff was recovered by the Racers to end, what turned out to be a close and exciting game.
